When dealing with digital exhibitions it is important to have a clear understanding but it is also important to consider related concepts. E.g. digital exhibitions are probably structured along a storyline but not necessarily so.

In order to create a digital exhibition a topic (which can also relate to a physical exhibition) has to be defined and several aspects have to be clarified. Should it be done in cooperation with other, for example experts, other organizations? Should it be participatory, involving for example the target group, stakeholders?

As methods to enrich digital exhibitions the following could be used  (non-exhaustive list):

storytelling
Storytelling needs a plot, characters and a narrative point of view.

gamification
Gamification is a process of taking something that already exists … and integrating game mechanics into it.

infographics
Infographics can be used to tell a story but they can also be used for other purposes. Infographics are methods of presentation of information, knowledge … in a form of graphs, boxes, … Infographics are visualizations of information.

animations
A
nimation is a dynamic medium in which images or objects are manipulated to appear as moving images.

Another aspect to reflect is the purpose why to build an exhibition (non-exhaustive list):

education
Digital exhibitions could be used in two different ways in education, either by delivering a ready made exhibition or by involving students in creating an exhibition, eventually with the involvement of cultural institutions or private organizations.

edutainment
Education by entertaining at the same time.

commemoration
With commemoration we want to bring to life some events, people or … not here anymore.

documentation
Documentation is the continuous and systematic compilation and processing of recorded information for the purpose of storage, classifying, retrieval, utilization, or transmission.

presenting material and immaterial heritage
- showing acquisitions, displaying not visible objects, presenting collections in new ways
- illustrating landscapes, practices, traditions, believes, performances, contexts …

community building
Community building is offering a space to meet, connect, exchange, share in order to bring together a group of individuals to share interests, ideas, topics or social, political, etc. causes or local, regional connections or identities, ethnicities.
